Time to NAME IN SHAME !!!!I know this is quite a hot topic, but I've actually reached a point now, where I can't take it anymore and will do everything in my power to let as many people know as possible...
On Friday afternoon, I was sitting in traffic next to the below car, and I noticed that the chick in the passanger seat had her +/- 2/3 year old sitting on her lap in the front seat..
She had "her" belt on but was holding the kid with its back to the windscreen and tossing him around a bit.
.
Yes, traffic was moving at a snails pace up to a robot that was out on William Nicol, but after that I could see it was going to open up and then traffic would be flowing at normal "danger" pace..
So I pull up next to them, roll down my window and utter the famous words..
"You do know that if you have an accident your kid will DIE"..
Well did I get a shock of note when the chick gets all aggressive and starts shouting at me that,
"Do you know how hard it is for a kid to sit in the back seat for 3 hours", "Mind your own business", "traffic is going slowly" "bla bla bla"..
Anyway, her (I assume) husband (the driver) just turns to me and says thanks for your concern and drives on...
Listen I'm not normally one to cause ** CENSORED **, but these two obviously had no regard for the safety of there child and for this I have no problem with posting this and "naming them in shame"...
Sorry I miss-timed this pic a bit but you can just about see the kid on her lap
To add, I then caught this car yesterday with there kid standing and jumping around on the back seat...
Frankly people/parents like you disgust me !!!!
I only hope that you never have to experience the loss of your child due to your blatant disregard for there safety...

Bats, I agree 100% with you, the accident a while ago on the Harties road where the 2/3 daugters die was because they were not bucled in, about a week, week a half ago there were an accident on the N1 i think where all the passangers were throwed out of they Toureg, there was a pic on news24 site and the car did not look to bad(the inside), the dad and his kid died, this is all because of "nalatigheid"
I get furious when I see stuff like that and the stupid parents dont have any common sense to think farther than their noses...
Now you got me all worked up...

I agree with you guys fully. But the womans argument carries weight as well. You try and keep a 2/3 to whatever age in a car seat for a long time and they will scream murder. The baby car seats are as hard as a rock, cause they do not have any padding. It is just a plastic seat with a cover. Comfort do not compromise safety so you are caught in a catch 22 situation. On the bright side though, I have seen child seat belt attachments which fit onto the normal seatbelt of the car but they can be adjusted to safely adjust to fit smaller children so that can sit on the back seat of the car rather than in a baby's car seat. It allows the seat belt to still go over the chest and over the lap. Think I saw them at the BUILDERS WAREHOUSE.

True Willie, but if its a case of crying kid or dead kid I think I'd suffer through the litey being a bit pissed off...
Just as a side, there was no kids seat in the back either..

Even in slow traffic,a good smack from the back and that kid is going to go flying. There is NO excuse for that in todays times. If its going to be a protracted outing then make provision for it,or leave the kid at home!

I agree with all the comments ... and it is difficult at times... but that is when i tune the wife to the back seat with my boy and she can watch him there...
Im just waiting for him to grow up more and he will be able to use that seat belts that Willie was talking about... i have seen them as well...
But nice one bats...

Sorry Willie but I have to disagree bud. All three of our kids have always been buckled up even on 6 hour holiday trips. At a premium u can get very good quality well padded kids car chairs/seats.
If a child is trained that no amount of crying is going to get u to unbuckle them they soon stop their cr@p!
I have raised this issue of children not been buckled up & the RS Club / RenSA getting behind it twice before without any success.
I think its time to approach RenSA / the media again & get the ball rolling!!

Big up to you Bats for trying to help out there bud.
Being a new father and reading this ** CENSORED ** makes me sick. Have to agree with Shark and Lino on this one. My lity sits fine in his car seat and the wife sits in the back there with him to calm him down if he does cry
Maybe when he gets bigger different story, with the crying, but I wil not let him ride up front like those idiots in the pics.

i have 3 year old and a 3 month old... also always in the car seats.
I have been in an accident many moons ago, when my daft stepmom, was holding her 3-4 month old in the front seat.... was a small accident , but she almost crushed him to death.

** CENSORED ** Zai, hope the litey was alright !!!
But that illustrates my point 10000000%
@ Wayne, I think you onto something with the buckle up thing, i know Cuzzen has also been furiously working to get something going on the Arrive Alive side...
If / when we do get it going, I'm completely behind it..
Cuzz, If you want any help taking what you've done forward, please shout

true, my wife and i had this carseat argument when zac was born, she was of the impression that it was ok, if it was for a small distance, or if he was hungry.
considering 90% off all road accidents happen within 5kms from home...
so i did this, I made her hold the baby bag, and hot dead brakes from 20km/h....try it

You get very very comfy but expensive car seats from Reggies for children that goes up to the age of 10 years. But like I say - NO PRICE ON SAFETY!
BIG UP TO YOU BATS!
My kids also know that even if I drive from the house to school which is LITERALLY around the corner - if the safety belts is not on - THEY WALK!!

I have a MaxiCosi seat for my daughter, it did come at a premium as Shark said, but when it came to my little girls safety and comfort I was not going to go budget on it.
This is the one:
She never goes in a car without being in a seat, it is now just normal for her. I think it starts with parents being to lazy when they are just poping to the shop, so the child sits up front, likes it, and then wants to do it all the time.
I wish the police would take as much interest in this issue, as they do with people speaking on there phones well driving!!

I also have a Maxi - Cosi in both the cars. We drove down to and back from Mosselbaai with a 1 year old in the Maxi - Cosi.
When you are 3 hours in a car, what about a every 2 hour break?
I agree with most guys here.
My son will tell me "nie vas nie" when I forget to buckle him up. Also I cannot sit stil for long, even if I just pull of at a petrol station get out and strech my legs I feel fresh to drive futher.
My friend had a big scare. He rolled his car, both him and his wife got serious injuries, his child was strapped in a Maxi cosi and there was no scratch or bruize on her. That made me get a Maxi cosi and they are comfertable (SP?). Ask my 4 year old. He sleeps, eat and drink in his.
I just want to ask if we can involve dealers here. Any dealer who is selling cars, to ask the parents if they want their child dead, because a carseat is a must.
